Club Statement - Dryburgh Athletic Women

15/03/2021

Andy Melville has stepped down as manager of Dryburgh Athletic Women after 3 years in charge.

After being accepted into University to study Physical Education, coupled with the successful launch of Andy Melville Fitness.

Andy approached the Committee, giving an honest assessment that he no longer has the time available to commit to the club.

Having carefully considered his reasons for wanting to leave the post, it is with huge regret that the committee accepted his resignation.

The club will now run a thorough process to identify the right person to continue the fantastic work Andy has previously put in place.

Current Coach Owen MacKenzie will take interim charge of the team with immediate effect, ensuring continuity.

Melville took the reigns at Dryburgh Athletic’s first ever Women’s team as they were established in 2017.

During his tenure the club finished 4th then 2nd in the old SWFL Division 2 North East.

The highlight seeing the side reach the SWFL Div2 National League Cup Final in 2019. In a match which was shown live via the SWF website, Dryburgh lost out 3-2 to Greenock Morton in pulsating match at Ainslie Park, Edinburgh.

Also during this period striker Steffi Simson excelled under Melville’s stewardship and was rewarded with the National award of SWFL Div2 Player of the year at the Scottish Women’s Football Awards.

Andy commented on his time at Dryburgh “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Dryburgh and feel proud to have been part of the project since the very beginning. From the very first trials, to leading the team in a National Cup Final and to a promotion, it’s been a privilege to have been involved with such a great club and group of girls.

I’d like to thank all the players past and present who have helped us achieve what we have in such a short space of time and progress the way we have.

I’d also like to thank the club for being so supportive in every way since the beginning. John Beatt, especially, had been the driving force behind starting and maintaining the women’s team.

Finally I’d like to thank Owen MacKenzie for working with me coaching the girls. His support has been vital and I can’t thank him enough for his hard work and dedication throughout the last three and a half years. I’m sure he will continue the success that we’ve already had.”

Chairman John Beatt had this to say “Whilst I’m delighted to see Andy succeed in business and continue further education at University, I’m gutted to see him leave. He’ll be sorely missed by everyone at the club, not least myself.

Having previously been our Club Development Officer then the Women’s manager, Andy has been with us now for 4 years.

His positive upbeat attitude, fantastic work ethic, commitment and knowledge will be sorely missed.

We thank him for all his hard work and dedication over the years and wish him all the very best in his next venture. He knows, the Dryburgh door is always open for him”

The Club invite CV’s and applications for the vacant Head Coach in due course.
