Senior Debut’s Highlight Success of Dryburgh Athletic Player Pathway
Over the course of the last few weeks no fewer than five girls from our Dryburgh Athletic Girls youth setup have made their senior debuts for our women’s teams.
Rosie Pople was the latest to make the step up at the weekend, coming off the bench to win a penalty for our Women’s first team in their away fixture at Grampian.
Rosie adds to a long list of Dryburgh Athletic Girls graduates, with Reagan Lafferty, Hannah Marsh, Chloe Clarkson and Lily Fyall all joining their U17’s teammate, Maia Laing - who previously featured last year – in representing our U21’s side in recent weeks. The girls have all contributed to what has been a very good start to the SWFL North/East season for John Beatt’s side.
In turn, this has also opened up opportunities for girls to step up an age group throughout the club, with a number of our talented U15’s featuring for our U17’s this season so far. This outlines the pathway in place from U7s all the way through to our Women’s Championship side.
Here is some background on our latest Dryburgh Athletic Girls graduates and their journey with the club so far:
Reagan Lafferty
Reagan joined the club in 2019. Straight away she impressed with her no-nonsense defending that she compliments well with her ability on the ball and her first class attitude. The versatile defender has gone from strength-to-strength over the last two years and will only get better.
Chloe Clarkson
Chloe is a box to box midfielder in her fourth year at Dryburgh. Her powerful running from midfield makes her a great asset and she also possesses a fine strike with her right foot. She is another that has improved year-on-year.
Hannah Marsh
Hannah (pictured) has been at Dryburgh for eight years now and is a deadly striker. It’s no surprise that she has scored in each of her first two senior appearances. With pace to burn and an eye for goal Hannah has all the attributes required to flourish in the women’s game.
Lily Fyall
Lily is another long-serving player, joining the club in 2015. She has become a real stalwart for the 17’s at full back and is an outstanding one-on-one defender. Her attitude and commitment to the club is exemplary and she very rarely misses a training session.
Rosie Pople
Rosie is a very direct winger who has spent four years at Dryburgh, having also spent time with Scone in between her two spells with us. She is another that has come on well in her time at the club and is always a difficult customer for any defender with her strong runs and trickery.
Maia Laing
Maia is another that has stepped up, having made her senior debut last year, and the skilful left-sided player has already recorded a couple of goals for the SWFL side. In her four years at Dryburgh her attitude and willingness every time she takes to the field has been outstanding. The midfielder’s quick feet and wand-like left foot are a great asset to her team.
This current group of players join a lengthy list that have graduated from the girl’s section to the women’s game at the club.
Currently, 21 players have progressed through the Dryburgh Athletic girls pathway and are all playing senior football at the club. Highlighting the real opportunities to progress through our fantastic pathway.
