Sophie sets her sights on top half Championship finish

23/07/2021

Dryburgh Athletic Women are delighted to announce the re-signing of Sophie Aitken for the 2021/22 SWF Championship North season.

Sophie joined the club from Raith Rovers back in 2020 and impressed immediately, winning Player of the Match on her full debut.

Before making the move across the Tay, Sophie had enjoyed 6 years with Rovers, progressing from the U15’s to become captain of the Ladies team.

The centre back is also a former Scotland youth international, having been capped by both Scotland U15’s and Scotland School’s U15’s.

Although perhaps more renowned for her defensive work, Sophie is also a threat at the other end, getting herself on the scoresheet in the recent pre-season friendly at Montrose.

Looking ahead to the new season, Sophie said: “I’m really looking forward to finally getting back into competitive football with Dryburgh.

“It’s been frustrating that, since I joined (Dryburgh) last year, we have had so little competitive games.”

On her ambitions for the season, Sophie said: “It will be good to establish ourselves in the Championship and challenge for the top half of the table.”

Look out for further announcements of player re-signings, as Dryburgh Athletic Women build up to the start of the 2021/22 season.
