Match report - Scottish Womens Cup

Dryburgh Athletic 0 Kilmarnock WFC 4

Dryburgh bowed out of the Scottish Cup today, thanks to 2 goals in each half from the Ayrshire SWPL2 side.

After a fairly even first spell, Kilmarnock took the lead after 15 minutes with a header from a cross in from the right. More pressure down the right hand side gave the visitors room in the box for them to double their lead on the half hour mark.

Dryburgh were pushing hard to get into the game and a Sophie Aitken header was powered towards goal from a cross from the right but it was well saved by the keeper. ‘Burgh’s best chance in the half came in the lead up to half time when Stacey McFadyen found space in the box, but her shot was saved. On the stroke of half time Alma Codegoni had the ball in the net for the home side but unfortunately she was judged to have fouled the defender.

‘Burgh were holding the visitors well, in particular through hard work from Tiegan Clark who pressed forward and tracked back constantly. However a 3rd goal came after 60 minutes after some ping pong in the box, with the visiting striker pouncing on the free ball to finish well with a shot into the corner.

Dryburgh weren’t finished though, and Codegoni was pressing the home defence all the time looking for half chances. A McFadyen shot from the edge of the box went inches past the post, as ‘Burgh tried to pull one back, however the game was finished off with a late goal to make the final score 4-0.

Dryburgh can hold their heads high for matching a higher league team for much of the game, however the visitors did show some excellent touches throughout and deserved to go into the 4th round draw.
