Match preview - SWF Championship Cup Semi-final

Dryburgh Athletic v Ayr United

This Sunday's match has all the hallmarks of being a cracking cup semi-final tie.  Dryburgh have had a couple of tough away ties to get to the semi final, with two away wins against East Fife (3-1) and Falkirk (4-1).  Both games were won well by 'Burgh, with steady passing, plenty movement, creating chances and ultimately scoring goals to win the games.  Of course the home side will be hoping for better weather than last Sunday, when a trip up to Montrose ended up with a second half storm.

Our visitors on Sunday are Ayr United who have a long journey - over 2 hours and over 100 miles - to get to Dundee.  Located in the seaside town of Ayr in the south west of Scotland, they have a large catchment area to draw from.  This includes the many small towns and villages of South Ayrshire, which is an area of Scotland with a strong footballing tradition.

They are one of a number of teams in the Championship South league who are in with a chance of being in the top 6, with a run of recent good form, including narrow wins against Clyde and league leaders Edinburgh City.  Their form in the Cup has also been good in reaching the semi final, with a 5-0 win against Airdrie being followed by a dramatic 5-3 win against high flying Livingston in October.  Like Dryburgh, our opponents are the senior team of a busy, strong pathway club for women and girls, with teams from under 7s all the way up to adults, including a strong develoment squad.

So there are all the ingedients here for a great match, which kicks off at 1.30pm at Glenesk Park.  Spectators are welcome, with admission only £2 for Adults with all Dryburgh Players/Coaches/Volunteers & Concessions/U18s - FREE and the Cafe open for refreshments - serving Hot drinks, snacks and pies.

We look forward to seeing you - come along and support the Burgh!
