Match preview

Scottish Power National League Cup Final

Sunday 24th May

Dryburgh Athletic v Bonnyrigg Rose

This Sunday sees our Women’s first team head to the Indodrill Stadium in Alloa in yet another massive game in our club’s history.

For the 4th time in 5 seasons Dryburgh are into the League Cup final, with Bonnyrigg Rose our opponents this year. Whilst our Cup record has been strong over the last few years, we will face a tough game against a strong team who have had a good season and who ended up in the top 6 in the League.

Our path to the final started off in October with an 8-2 win away to Morton. Our next match was the quarter final in March and was another tough away match. This time it was against St Mirren from League One, which we won 2-1 thanks to a late winner.

We then had a memorable and exciting match in April in our semi-final, away (again!) to Stenhousemuir. Going 3-0 ahead we thought our path to the final was secure, but Stenny fought back to 3-2 to make a game of it. However, in the end we held on to that 3-2 lead right to the end, securing us that much coveted place in the final.

Meanwhile Bonnyrigg Rose’s path to the final began in September, when they were drawn at home against Renfrew Ladies, winning 4-3 in a thrilling match.

The next round saw them play at home, with a 7-2 victory against Edinburgh Caledonia.

Next came a 2-0 win against Forfar in the quarter final, followed by a dramatic 2-1 win against Westdyke in the semi-final.

Their recent league form has also been good, with a 3-1 win against Rossvale last weekend and a 2-2 against Renfrew the weekend before.

So the stage is set for a cracking game, with both teams set to give their all to get their hands on the Cup.

It would be great to see lots of supporters there - wear your Dryburgh colours with pride, your kits, hats, scarves, banners, and bring the noise to Alloa to cheer on our amazing Dryburgh squad!
