Match preview

Scottish Women’s Championship and League One Cup Final

Sunday 21st April

Indodrill Stadium, Alloa

Dryburgh Athletic Women v Rossvale Women

Sunday sees our fantastic Dryburgh squad head to Alloa for the League Cup final for the 3rd season in a row. We face Rossvale Women, who have been in good form all season and no doubt we are in for a tough but exciting match at the Indodrill Stadium.

The last couple of league games against Rossvale have ended in wins for the Glasgow side, but of course ‘Burgh fans will always remember last season’s epic League Cup semi final between the teams when ‘Burgh won 3-0 in an epic match at Airdrie Stadium, which will always be remembered for the last minute call up for ‘Burgh’s recreational side’s goalkeeper Sarah Paterson, who played her part in that win by keeping a clean sheet.

The most memorable match in ‘Burgh’s route to this season’s Cup Final was surely the semi-final against Ayr, played at Kelty Hearts stadium last month. With the game stuck at 1-1 after 90 minutes, with still no goals towards the end of half an hour of extra time as the final whistle approached, Stacey McFadyen was played through into the box and the dynamic winger calmly stroked the ball over the advancing keeper to score the winner in the game’s dying minutes, to secure our place in the final.

Our ‘Burgh squad head into the game in buoyant mood after two 3-0 wins in recent weeks, against Renfrew and Hutchison Vale, with both games being played in very windy and challenging conditions. Last week’s game against Hutchy in Bo’ness was a comfortable win, with the 2 Olivias - Moffat and Jones-Burns - bagging the goals, both of them scoring for the second week in a row.

Meanwhile having had a strong season, Rossvale head into the Cup Final after a draw and a loss in recent weeks. Two weeks ago a nail biter of a match saw them draw with East Fife, whilst last weekend they lost 2-1 to Ayr United in Cumnock, so no doubt they will be keen to get back to the good form they have had for most of the season.

Sunday’s Cup Final kicks off at 4pm at Indodrill Stadium, Alloa. We would love to see as many supporters as possible come along and cheer on our girls - C’mon the Burgh!
