It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to two fantastic people who have given great service to Dryburgh over the past decade, as Callum and Lily Fyall have decided to take a break from the game following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
Callum and Lily have been the epitome of loyally and commitment throughout their time at the club, and will be sadly missed. Lily first got involved back in 2015, joining the youth pathway, and quickly established herself as a committed, non nonsense defender. Lily would go on to win the U13’s East League with her team, all whilst her dad supported in the background by putting up nets and helping with transporting players to and from games.
Eventually at the start of 2019, Callum had his arm twisted to get involved more formally with the club and took on a coaching role. It was no surprise that with his enthusiasm and work ethic that Callum took to the role like a duck to water and was a great success, eventually leading the U18’s to South East League success in 2022, in what was an unbeaten league campaign.
Lily was also a key member of that league winning squad and was an ever present at right back throughout the season, bringing grit, determination and no shortage of flair down the flank, as she weighed in with a number of assists.
Lily then stepped up to senior football the following season, despite starting Nursing at University in Edinburgh, and has continued to be a mainstay in the Development team. She has hardly missed a game or training sessions over her 3 seasons at senior football, all whilst completing her studies, which is again testament to her commitment and loyalty to the club.
Callum has also stepped up as Head Coach of the Development Team over the last 3 seasons and, despite a number of challenges, has provided great stability and a platform for girls to go and perform each week, whilst also showing great leadership and compassion when the players have needed it.
We wish Callum and Lily well for the future, you will both be sorely missed!
