Superb 10–2 Victory for the 2013 Sky Blues

31/08/2025

The Sky Blues bounced back in style in their second league game of the season with a dominant 10–2 win at South Road against Montrose Vics.

After a narrow defeat in the season opener, the boys took plenty of positives into this one—along with a clear focus on correcting the errors that proved costly last time out. The work put in during Wednesday and Friday’s training sessions clearly paid off.

The Sky Blues started brightly, carving out several early chances. Only a mix of inspired goalkeeping, the crossbar, and a bit of misfortune in front of goal prevented an even earlier breakthrough.

Eventually, the deadlock was broken after some brilliant vision from Chris to pick out Harrison, who coolly slotted home the opener.

Montrose Vics responded with a stunning strike against the run of play to make it 1–1. But the Sky Blues didn’t let their heads drop—instead, they stepped up a gear and fired in four more goals, including a hat trick from Roshe, before the break, ending the half with a commanding 5–1 lead.

A standout aspect of the first half was the bravery and composure shown throughout the team—qualities that were lacking in parts of the previous game but were clearly addressed in training.

The message at half time was clear: maintain the high standards.

The second half followed a similar pattern. As the game began to slow, the Sky Blues showed real maturity in possession, moving the ball intelligently and creating plenty more opportunities. The team’s work ethic remained high from start to finish, with players consistently making selfless decisions for the good of the team.

It was a performance full of positives, making it nearly impossible to choose a single Player of the Match. That said, a special mention goes to Lui and Luke, who both carried Wednesday and Friday’s defensive coaching points straight into the game with great effect.

Today’s captain was Chaz, who led by example and set the tone for the team with his usual commitment and leadership.

A tough test awaits next weekend against Maryfield Whites—but with performances like this, there’s plenty to be excited about.
