Dryburgh Sky Blues 3–3 St. Andrews Colts Reds

This week, the Sky Blues faced a tough midweek test against Tier 1 opposition in the form of St. Andrews Colts Reds—a challenge the coaching team believed would provide valuable learning and development opportunities.

Following a fantastic weekend performance, the starting lineup remained largely unchanged. The only alteration came in goal, with Rowan stepping in for Lennon after a possible injury during the warm-up.

From the first whistle, the match was played at a high tempo. St. Andrews impressed with their technical ability and slick passing.

The first major chance of the game went to St. Andrews, but Rowan produced an outstanding right-handed save to keep the score at 0–0.

Dryburgh opened the scoring, however, after Aiden played a ball down the line. Roshe showed great determination to press the defender, win possession, and feed Harrison—who battled to get the ball over the line to continue his excellent run of form.

St. Andrews responded with a superb equaliser. A cross from the left was expertly controlled and dispatched from the edge of the box. 1–1.

But Dryburgh regained the lead just before halftime. A throw-in on the left was worked to Finn, who delivered a pinpoint cross into the box. Harrison timed his run perfectly, opened his body, and finished with composure to grab his second of the match. A goal of real quality.

At the break, Dryburgh made three changes. Lennon returned in goal after recovering from his earlier knock, while Max Gallazzi and another Mason were handed their Dryburgh debuts.

St. Andrews came out strong in the second half, pinning Dryburgh back and making it difficult for them to press. The midfield trio of Jack, Finn, and Chris worked tirelessly, putting in tackles and trying to limit the time and space given to St. Andrews’ technical players.

The fourth goal was always going to be crucial—and Dryburgh almost had it when Jack struck the inside of the post from 25 yards. Not long after, Charlie picked up the ball from a similar distance and, with the help of a deflection, fired it into the net to make it 3–1.

St. Andrews, to their credit, kept pushing. Lennon and the center backs Charlie and Luke, who's positive defending from Sunday continued into this match, held firm under pressure, but eventually a solo run and low finish brought the score to 3–2.

With just five minutes to go, St. Andrews grabbed the equaliser to make it 3–3—where the score would remain until full-time.

A thrilling game against a strong opponent, and a performance the entire Dryburgh squad can be proud of. The effort, teamwork, and resilience on display were superb. This match sets the team up well for their first-ever Scottish Cup game this Sunday away to Luncarty. Kick-off is at 2:30 PM—supporters welcome!

Player of the Match: A tough one to call this week— but the coaches went with Jack.
