Dryburgh Athletic Women are delighted to announce Derek Lawson as our new Head Coach ahead of the 2026/27 SWF Championship season.
Derek brings a wealth of coaching experience, primarily from the men’s game, where he has taken charge of Brechin Vics, Forfar West End, Scone Thistle and Arbroath Vics, as well as a spell coaching in Australia over the last 17 years.
A keen admirer and observer of the women’s game, Derek also brings a depth of knowledge that will be invaluable. We look forward to seeing him put his stamp on the team and help our players develop.
Derek had this to say “I’m excited to have a new challenge in the women’s game after many years in the men’s junior football. I can’t wait to get started in preseason.
Head of Girls’ & Women’s football John Beatt commented “We are delighted to get Derek on board. He joins the club with huge coaching experience and a desire to succeed in the Women’s game. After initial discussions, it was clear to see his and our values aligned, with player development continuing to be very much at the forefront of the focus over the next few years. Derek met the playing staff last night and it was great to see the positivity in the room.”
The players will return for pre-season training on June 23rd to be put through their paces by the new man at the helm, as they prepare for the new SWF Championship season, which is scheduled to kick off on August 2nd.
Good luck, Derek!
