Coaching coup for Dryburgh Athletic Women

22/04/2021

We are delighted to welcome Chris Laird to Dryburgh Athletic Community Club.

Chris joins our Women’s Championship sides coaching team and will work together with Owen MacKenzie to manage, coach and further develop our talented squad.

Chris brings a wealth of experience with him having managed and coached previously with East Fife WFC, Dunfermline Athletic, Bayside and Kelty Hearts - leading several of these sides to League and Cup success.

Chris also has experience within the Men’s juniors game, coaching with Lochore Welfare.

Laird had this to say on his appointment “I’m delighted to join Dryburgh Athletic Women’s Championship teams backroom staff and really excited about getting started.

“The club has a young progressive team with a fantastic youth set up, that was something that really interested me when I first heard of the vacancy.

“The opportunity to come in and help the coaching team and also develop further myself  is a great opportunity for me as a coach too.

“Dryburgh have a built a fantastic reputation in the women’s game, with honest good people involved, wanting the best for the players and coaches.”

Chairman John Beatt said on Laird appointment “I’ve known Chris for number of years now, having previously met doing the SFA C License course and way back then we hit it off.

“He is vastly experienced in the Women’s game and his CV speaks volumes. He’s won leagues and cups and been nominated for various awards in the Women’s game, but more importantly, he’s a really nice guy who has a great manner about him and exactly the type of person we were looking for at Dryburgh.

“Chris was one of names we first discussed when Andy Melville stepped down, so naturally we were delighted when he applied for the post.

“We are confident Chris and Owen will compliment each other and work well together and look forward the next step in our journey with this team.”
